Belmont's Curse Arcana Guide: How the Tarot System Works

How the tarot Arcana system works in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse — sealing bosses into cards, equipping their powers, and building around spells and actions.

Arcana is the system that makes Belmont’s Curse more than a straight action game: every boss you defeat is sealed into Rose’s tarot deck and becomes an equippable power. This guide explains the full loop — sealing, equipping, and building around cards — based on official material, verified 2026-10-12 and expanded on launch day.

What is the Arcana system in Belmont’s Curse?

Rose Belmont carries her mother’s magical tarot deck, and it is not a story prop — it is the game’s core progression system. When you defeat a boss, the boss is sealed into one of the cards as an Arcana. From official material:

Once defeated, bosses are sealed into Rose’s tarot cards, turning them into Arcana — use their skills to cast spells and obtain unique special actions.

That makes each boss three things at once: a wall, a key, and a permanent new tool. It is the Metroidvania unlock loop of one persistent map wearing a tarot deck — and it is why the boss list doubles as a power checklist.

How do you seal a boss into a tarot card?

You fight the boss and win. Sealing is automatic on defeat — there is no capture step, no item, no choice. The confirmed seals so far:

Boss defeated Arcana result
The Fallen (first boss) Your first card — effect details at launch
Joan of Arc Sealed into a card; her defeat also grants the Greatsword
Medusa, Carmilla, Death Confirmed bosses — sealing confirmed for all

What do equipped Arcana actually do?

Two confirmed effect categories, straight from official material:

  1. Spells — active casts drawn from the sealed boss’s theme.
  2. Unique special actions — movement or combat actions only that Arcana grants, the Metroidvania “key” side of the system.

The unconfirmed layer is the one that matters for builds: how many cards you can equip at once, whether effects stack, and whether cards can be swapped freely. Those details land with launch — we will document the exact equip rules here the day we can test them.

How should you build around Arcana?

Think of your loadout as two halves:

  • Your weapon family decides how you fight in hand-to-hand ranges — speed versus commitment.
  • Your Arcana decides what you can do beyond your weapon — spells for damage at range, special actions for mobility or utility.

A practical pre-launch stance: keep one mobility-focused special action equipped while you are still mapping, and swap toward spell-heavy setups when you know a boss fight is coming. Once the full card list is public, this section becomes a proper build guide with named combos.

Which Arcana are confirmed so far?

Five bosses are confirmed, so five Arcana cards are implied — but official material has not shown the cards’ names or full effect text. Our Arcana tracking page lists every card as it is confirmed, and the launch hub tracks when that information goes public.
